Jason S. Perlman, DDS

Personal & Educational Background

Dr. Jason Perlman’s journey began in Youngstown, Ohio, but it was at Arizona State University where his passion for adventure truly emerged. While team sports had always been a part of his life, Arizona introduced him to a whole new world of outdoor excitement—mountain and road cycling, rock climbing, and backpacking quickly became his favorite hobbies.

After working with The City of Phoenix’s small business relations team, Dr. Perlman returned to Ohio, where he pursued his dream of becoming a dentist (and officially a Buckeye) at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. His dedication and talent were evident when he trained at Akron City Hospital’s Center for Dental Health, where he was honored with awards for his excellence in restorative, periodontal, and endodontic therapies. Though Ohio and Arizona hold cherished memories, Dr. Perlman has found his true home in the beauty that is the Pacific Northwest.

Treatment Philosophy

Dr. Perlman isn’t your ordinary dentist— and his inspiration for transforming lives began when he experienced a transformation of his own. For years, he accepted constant exhaustion as the norm, until his professional path led him to begin learning about sleep breathing disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea. Driven by a personal quest for relief, he volunteered for a take-home sleep study during his studies, revealing a surprising diagnosis: mild obstructive sleep apnea.

With newfound hope, Dr. Perlman pursued treatment and was astounded by the profound shift in his daily energy and vitality. This pivotal experience ignited a fire within him to share this journey with others. Determined to make a difference, he set out to earn Diplomacy with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, aiming to offer the same relief and empowerment to his patients.

Dr. Perlman’s mission extends far beyond addressing sleep disorders. His goal is to educate and empower his patients, showcasing the intricate connection between oral health and overall wellness. Through close collaboration with fellow healthcare professionals, he ensures his patients receive top-tier interdisciplinary care, tailored to their unique needs.

With a wealth of educational and training background, Dr. Perlman integrates holistic therapies with cutting-edge technology, blending art and science to bring the best care to his patients. He understands that true healing goes beyond the technicalities; it’s about fostering personal and professional relationships built on trust, empathy, and sincerity. Dr. Perlman is dedicated to a lifelong journey of learning and mastery. Since earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, he has been on a relentless pursuit of excellence, constantly seeking to elevate his skills and expertise. Immersing himself in world-renowned institutions like The L.D. Pankey Institute and Spear Education, Dr. Perlman hones his craft in advanced technical dentistry. These prestigious institutions are synonymous with innovation and excellence, shaping him into a true leader in his field. In fact, In 2022, Dr. Perlman was honored as one of the 10 Dentists to Watch in the nation by The Academy of General Dentistry.

With complete mastery training in treating sleep related breathing disorders, and earning Diplomate status with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, Dr. Perlman is at the forefront of cutting-edge therapies for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. And his passion extends beyond dental sleep medicine. Completing a Clinical Implantology Residency with the Washington Academy of General Dentistry, Dr. Perlman has emerged as a skilled surgeon utilizing laser therapy and his patients’ natural healing abilities to improve surgical results. Now, as a visiting faculty member for the program, he imparts his expertise to other dental professionals.

Personal Life

Dr. Perlman, with his wife and fellow adventurer, Karyn, enjoy sharing their love for the outdoors which manifests in weekend hiking and backpacking escapades, snowshoe adventures, and creating memories as they explore Washington State. He is always on the lookout for new and exciting culinary experiences and savors these moments alongside friends and loved ones.

Dr. Perlman’s enthusiasm extends to the realm of philanthropy and fitness. An avid bicyclist, he actively participates in bike tours, not just for the joy of the ride but to contribute to noble causes such as cancer research. Amidst all of his adventures, Dr. Perlman finds his greatest joy in fatherhood. Cherishing the precious “daddy-son” days with his son, Monte. For Dr. Perlman, life isn’t just about smiles in the clinic—it’s about embracing every facet of life with enthusiasm, compassion, and a genuine love for the journey.

Karyn M. Mai, DDS

Personal & Educational Background

Dr. Karyn Mai’s journey began in Seattle, where she flourished as a Gates Millennium Scholar at the University of Washington, earning dual degrees in Microbiology and Comparative History of Ideas. She pursued her Doctorate Dental degree at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry, where she graduated with honors. Dedicated to excellence, Dr. Mai honed her clinical skills in a general practice residency at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Mai has spent time learning at renowned dental institutions, such as Spears Education and The Pankey Institute to treat complex, full mouth cases to ideal esthetics and function.

As a dentist, she has advanced training in comprehensive and functional dentistry. She has a deep understanding of how dental health, TMJ functions, oral and airway conditions relate to whole body health. In addition to Dr. Mai’s commitment to cosmetic and holistic dentistry, she has specialized education in facial esthetics in traditional materials and all-natural, regenerative PRP/PRF and laser therapies.

Dr. Mai’s professional philosophy is that high-quality comprehensive dental care should not be considered a luxury, but a service accessible to all. Dr. Mai has a long-term commitment to community dentistry and has volunteered to provide free dental care locally to the homeless community with the Union Gospel Mission Dental Clinic and with Medical Teams International Mobile Dental Clinic. Globally, she has been involved with a number of traveling medical and dental clinics serving Costa Rica and Honduras. Dr. Mai’s goal is to form long-lasting relationships with her patients by breaking down the common fears of going to the dentist.

Dr. Mai has a passion for transformative procedures and life-changing before/after experiences (happy tears optional) and uses her creative perspective to deliver cosmetic treatments that best expresses her artistic skills. These include but are not exclusive to dental veneers, airway interventions, orthodontics treatments, TMJ therapies, dental bonding, and facial esthetic rejuvenations.

She provides gentle and well-informed care with the patient’s concerns and needs always at the forefront of the service she provides. She understands that function and esthetics are critical to overall mental and physical wellness and she would like to be a partner in achieving these goals with her patients.

As the many scopes of dentistry and facial esthetics are constantly evolving, Dr. Mai understands the importance of being a lifelong learner through continuing education. The wide array of treatment that she provides is a testament to her dedication and training. Dr. Mai has a sharp esthetic eye for cosmetic dentistry and facial esthetics injections. Dr. Mai has completed advanced master level training at a wide-array of learning institutions and continues to stay up-to-date with over 100 hours of training yearly.

Michael Yoo, DMD

Personal & Educational Background

Dr. Michael Yoo graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in General Biology and a minor in Education, Leaning, and Society. He then pursued a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. He obtained his Doctorate Dental Degree at Western University in Pomona, California.

Treatment Philosophy

Dr. Yoo’s treatment philosophy is deeply rooted in family, community involvement, and overall wellness. Dr. Yoo decided to become a dentist because of his mother and her struggles with dental care. When she lost her teeth, he saw how much of an impact not having a smile could make on a person. For that matter, he began his dental career volunteering in many different dental organizations, such as the Washington Oral Health Foundation, Mission of Mercy, and Vietnam Health Clinic. It is his belief that by taking care of our communities, people like his mother have more access to care and the ability to achieve overall wellness. In his time away from our office, he works with the homeless population of Washington State and encourages other young professionals to pursue a career in dentistry. Smiles are more than just teeth, they are an expression of who we are and how we feel. Through his caring, empathetic, and approachable nature, his goal is to provide everyone with world class dental care and uplift all his patients through helping them achieve healthier smiles.

Continuing Education

Dr. Yoo understands that dental care means more than just treating the smile. It means allowing his patients to understand how lifestyle, nutrition, and exercise can impact oral health. In part, Dr. Yoo has obtained his Masters Degree in Biomedical Sciences and uses this knowledge to practice evidence-based dentistry. Through his passion for integrative dentistry and collaborative medicine, he gets our patients excited about healthy smiles and overall wellness. Dr. Yoo continues to take education courses in TMJ disorders and bite splint therapy through various institutions throughout the United States.

Personal Life

Dr. Yoo grew up in Anchorage, Alaska where he spent most of his free time snowboarding, hiking and camping. His love of nature eventually brought him to Washington State! Both he and his wife love the outdoors and finding new spots to eat. On the weekends, you can find him either hiking one of the amazing PNW trails, eating with his friends, or road tripping to Oregon or Canada.
